This account summarizes the combined transactions of the federal government and of the state and local governments. This includes government current receipts -- such as tax receipts from persons and contributions for government social insurance; government current expenditures -- such as compensation of government employees and transfer payments to persons; and net saving, which is derived as current receipts less current expenditures.
