Occupational Pay
Bureau of Labor Statistics
This dataset shows average hourly compensation for specific occupations in US census divisions and metropolitan areas. Data are from the National Compensation Survey, conducted over a 13-month period for the 87 larger areas; for the 140 smaller areas, data were collected over a 4-month period. For each establishment in the survey, the data reflect the establishments? most recent information at the time of collection. The survey excludes workers in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, private households, and the Federal government. Earnings are defined as regular payments from the employer to the employee as compensation for straight-time hourly work or for any salaried work performed. Work level is an assigned ranking of an occupation based on the requirements of the position and degree of responsibility. The higher the level, the higher the requirements and level of responsibility. Pay data are adjusted to reflect area differences in occupational composition.
